Hi everyone!

First off, we are posting our articles here and on Substack now! This will officially be our first post that will be highlighted on our new platform - so exciting!

Yes, we will be posting our newsletter content there for a bit in addition to our website here, so if you or someone you know is subscribed to our emails, make sure you all sign up for Substack to get our content!

I’m feeling very appreciative of all of you that continue to follow Bloom in Color and submit or read our content, I thank you all for being a part of this journey so far.

Now let’s get to it. How’s your month been?

I know for me, the United States presidential election hit really hard for me. After Election Night, I felt pretty defeated. I couldn’t believe all the hate that was being praised and the folks within my own network that were in support of someone that simply does not care about people like myself.

I don’t know how else I can convince others to care about others, but I am also just tired of doing so. It’s hurtful when others you care about or people you at least somewhat associate with just have different views than you on basic human rights.

I want this to be a reminder that you are allowed to be sad, upset, angry, and hurt after these election results for as long as you need. Some will say that politics are not that deep and it’s not that big of a deal, but they very much are! Our government has been responsible for granting (or restricting) human rights in the past and continue to be responsible for this now. Politics are not to be taken lightly, and if you feel that you don’t want to associate someone that has completely different political views than yours this presidential election, you’re allowed to do so! Set boundaries and do what feels best for you. There’s no need to have the validation of others on this mindset either, especially from those that may not understand how politics can really affect the lives of marginalized groups and/or even their own communities.

In the United States, we also have the privilege to share our views, protest, and ask for change. Therefore, this is the time, now more than ever, to pay attention. If it is safe for you to do so, talk to your family and friends this Thanksgiving about what this election means for you. If we don’t talk about the issues, we won’t be able to come together to determine solutions - no matter what that looks like.

I also think we need to be in the know. You’re allowed as women of color to take a moment and process as needed and I know most of you are aware that we’ve never really had the option of not paying attention. That understanding is because when things take a turn for the worse in a country, it always affects us even more so. Read books, watch the news, find a political podcast, vote in your local and state elections - but also take your time to rest.

I’m sure this past week, or so, for a lot of you, felt very heavy and mixed with a lot of emotions following the election. I want you to know all of your feelings are very valid, even if you don't know how to feel at all.

So, please find your community, talk to each other, offer support, and lean on each other. We don’t know what the next administration will hold for us, but just know we got this.

As always, the Bloom in Color team is here for support, so email us at bloomincolornewsletter@gmail.com or message us on Instagram and let us know how you’re holding up this week and how you plan to take care of yourself and your people.

Talk to you all next month!
